BIOGRAPHY.

early life.

- finnegan isla roy, known to most as finn, was born the fourth and youngest child of logan roy and caroline collingwood. she is, roughly, three years younger than shiv (assuming their ages in canon are approximately: kendall, ~40; roman, ~36; shiv, ~33).
- finn's conception was not planned by logan and caroline and came along at a time where their marriage was seriously deteriorating. their relationship may have ended earlier if it weren't for finn. the rumor was that caroline went forward with the pregnancy in the first place to spite logan. the media mogul didn't want another child to take care of. but, no matter the reason, they ultimately ended up with finn.
- finn was an extremely sensitive child, something neither of her parents dealt with well. growing up, she always felt like she was on the outside of her family. she was constantly wanting for affection, and when she felt pain, she did the natural thing for a child. she cried. and she cried a lot. so much so, that logan used to make everyone sit an wait for finn's tears to cease, which often took some time.
- finn was also very smart, much like her siblings. she attended a variety of private schools during her education. though she didn't struggle much academically, her disciplinary problems proved challenging. in middle school, she tried to organize the students into a pseudo-union against the board. at one high school, she was kicked out due to a "practical joke" she participated in against the headmaster. ultimately, she ended her secondary education at an all-girls boarding school.

young to early adulthood.

- from her teenage years onward, finn would be described as promiscuous — by those close to her and by the tabloids and gossip rags that wrote about her personal life. online media and forums began to rise as finn grew up, and she hated the chatter. hated to be reduced to one thing about herself. yet, she hated the idea of having to stop to appease others.
- finn discovered she was bisexual as a teenager, though she only publicly has dated men. she kept her conquests a secret, surprisingly well for someone in the public eye. she was careful, never wanting to discover the full consequences of being outed.
- finn attended yale undegrad. initially, she wanted to try to get in on her own merit, but her complicated record made her give up rather quickly. she did well in school, but found herself getting involved with different social groups rather than involving herself on campus. she was well-liked, but not well-regulated.
tw: references to grooming, sexual assault: at 19, in between her freshman and sophomore year of college, finn was at home at the family's old house in upstate new york. some of her father's employees were at the house, and finn was the only one of the kids staying there at the time. a man who worked for her father, high up in the ranks, had previously charmed finn enough that she warmed up to him. but, he betrayed her, staying with the family one weekend and assaulting finn once they were alone. finn never told her father, but she began struggling, acting up to a new degree. there was a confrontation at a holiday party involving the man and finn that caused logan to reach his breaking point. he, effectively, shipped her off for a semester abroad in europe. finn never quite figured out whether or not he knew, on some level, what had happened.
- tw: references to drug abuse while in europe, finn continued to spiral. she was drinking in excess, doing whatever drugs she could. she developed an intimate relationship with pills (pain killers), and was engaging in a lot of high-risk behaviors, especially surrounding sex. it all came to a head one night in barcelona where hse almost overdosed while partying with friends (most of whom were relative strangers). after that, the old guard came and scooped her up. they sent her to a wellness center back in the states, and that was that.
- finn buried anything that she couldn't confront, from that point on. it was around this time that she started experiencing panic attacks more consistently, though she had grappled with them since childhood.
- she went back to school and boosted her academic performance. eventually, she went on to harvard business school where she received her MBA.
